Short-term / temporary fostering

This can last for a few days, weeks and sometimes many months.

A very important type of fostering that gives stability to children and young people, while plans and decisions are made about their future.

Permanent fostering

This is when foster carers look after a child or young person until they reach adulthood and move on to independence.

Intensive fostering

An extremely rewarding type of fostering which involves caring for children or young people who have additional complex, physical, emotional or educational needs.

This type of fostering requires significant experience of working with and/or looking after children and young people. Intensive foster carers need to be committed and resilient.

Intensive foster carers are paid £1,008 per week for each child or young person they care for (maximum of 2 at any time).

Short breaks fostering

Providing planned support to children with disabilities and their families.

A type of fostering which is suitable for those who aren’t able to commit to full-time fostering.
